Abstract

Introduction: The birth of babies with low birth weight (LBW) is the leading cause of prenatal mortality and will affect the growth and development of the baby. Many factor causes the incidence of LBW to increase, including the mother's birth age, hemoglobin (Hb), trombocyte and leukocyte levels beyond the usual range. Objective: To investigate the relationship between pregnant women's age at delivery, Hb, platelet, and leukocyte counts, and the incidence of LBW at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang from January 2017 to 2018. Methods: Observational research with a cross-sectional design and data from patient medical records was used. Data were collected from 63 pregnant women who were treated at the Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital between January 2017 and 2018. Furthermore, the Chi-Square test was used to examine the research results. Results: Pregnant woman of risk age have a 0.912 chance of having kids with LBW compared to pregnant woman aged 20-35, which is not statistically significant. Pregnant woman with leukocyte levels of 13,000/µL had a considerably lower chance of 0.260 to give birth to babies with LBW, although Hb and platelet characteristics do not influence the incidence of LBW. Conclusion: The relationship between pregnant women's age, Hb levels, and platelets and the incidence of LBW was not statistically significant, but pregnant woman with leukocyte levels less than 13,000/µL had a 0.260 significantly lower tendency to give birth to babies with LBW than Pregnant woman with leukocyte levels > 13,000/µL.
