Intervention to Increase Parenting Self-Efficacy for Pregnant Women: Literature Review

Abstract

Introduction: Knowledge during pregnancy is very important in preparing couples to become parents. The transition to parenthood can be stressful for new parents, especially with little or no health professional present during pregnancy. Parenting self-efficacy is a parent's belief in their ability to manage and perform tasks related to parenting. Parenting self-efficacy is important during pregnancy because it is the basic capital to start being a parent in raising children. Purpose: This study was conducted to provide an overview of existing research in several countries on increasing parenting self-efficacy in pregnant women. Methods: This research is a literature study that was searched through Pubmed and Google Scholar which were published from 2012 to 2021. Of the 38 article titles and which met the inclusion criteria and were reviewed there were 7 articles. Results: Interventions to increase parenting self-efficacy based on literature studies include the Smart Breastfeeding Mother Education Program (PCIM), Use of Maternal and Child Health books, Effects of birth education programs oriented towards interpersonal psychotherapy, Effects of short training programs, Psycho-educational interventions, Awareness-based program, Technology-Based Parenting Education. Conclusion: Increasing parenting self-efficacy during pregnancy is very important for prospective parents to raise children.
