Effectiveness of Acupressure on Primary Dismenorrhea in Adolescents: Literature Review

Abstract
Introduction: According to WHO (2020) what is called youth are those who are in the transitional stage between childhood and adulthood, the age limit of adolescents is 10 to 19 years. Adolescents are children aged 10-24 years who are the age between childhood and adulthood and are the starting point for the reproductive process, so they need to be prepared from an early age (Romauli, 2009). Dysmenorrhea is often experienced by young women which is characterized by cramping (tense) pain in the lower abdomen but can spread to the back. Acupressure is a finger prick therapy by providing pressure and massage at certain points on the body based on the principles of acupressure science (Fengge, 2012) Purpose: to examine more deeply the effectiveness of acupressure on primary dysmenorrhea in adolescents where there is compatibility with previous studies by reviewing several studies. Methods: This review uses several sources including systematic search studies of computerized databases (Pubmed and Google Scholar) taken in the last 5 years from 2017-2021. The articles obtained in the search are journals, but after reviewing the articles, they are adjusted according to the number of journal titles with national and international journals. The criteria for finding the key to searching the literature review are "acupressure"; pain intensity, “dysmenorrhea”; "teenage girl". Results: From the results of the research in table 1 in this study there is an effect of acupressure on dysmenorrhea in young women. Table 2 in this study shows that SP6 acupressure reduces dysmenorrhea, especially with an increase in temperature in the CV2 pathway. In table 3 in this study hidden anxiety did not show significant changes before and after the intervention. In table 4 in this study auricular acupressure reduced menstrual pain and pressure in high school adolescents. Conclusion: From the findings of this review it can be concluded that there is an effect of acupressure on dysmenorrhea in young women.
