Abstract

Introduction: Women in Indonesia still have a low level of awareness in performing breast self-examination or BSE caused by a lack of sensitivity about the importance of maintaining breast health. A survey from the World Health Organization in 2018 showed that 8-9% of women have breast cancer. Objective: This literature review aims to determine the use of BSE as a screening and early detection of breast cancer in women. Method: This article uses the method Literature Review based on the latest research articles published in 2017 to 2021. The number of articles reviewed in this literature review is 10 articles. The-based data sources online used come from Indonesia and other countries that use English such as PubMed and Google Schoolar. Result: Based on the 10 articles analyzed, it was found that respondents who have good knowledge and attitudes will do BSE properly and correctly in breast cancer screening. Factors and interventions from BSE actors are generally caused by their age, occupation, and daily activities. The most influential factors and interventions were a supportive environment and deeper knowledge about breast cancer. Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is a change in the level of knowledge and attitudes before and after the intervention on the BSE application as an early detection effort for breast cancer that occurs in women.
