Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the risk factors contribute to the correlation between LGE and immunodeficiency in people living with HIV Material and Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted in subjects with HIV in Central Java Province LGE was obtained by clinical examination taken from subject, CD4 value was used to determine immunodeficiency status, and the growth of Candida Spp was obtained using mycological examination. All LGE cases were also validated by three Oral Medicine Specialists. The data were presented descriptively and were analysed using parametric or non paramateric analysis depending on the normal distribution with 95% of confidence interval. Results: There were 186 HIV subjects participated to this study, 91 adult subjects were found having gingivitis suspected of LGE. Descriptive analysis 35.2% (32 people) were positive for LGE, and LGE was mostly found in the anterior region. Chi-Square test showed that there was no association of LGE with clinical calculus, smoking, ARV treatment, immunodeficiency status, and growth of Candida Spp. Conclusion: LGE has no relationship with local factors that cause gingivitis in general (calculus & smoking), ARV medication and immunodeficiency status of people with HIV.
